Construction of cycle track along Store Valbyvej

Construction of two-way cycle track along Store Valbyvej with a view to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists.

In Roskilde, there is a wish to improve the facilities for cyclists from the surrounding towns to Roskilde Campus e.g. by improving traffic safety. Today, many students go by bike via the narrow street Store Valbyvej which is perceived unsafe for pedestrians and cyclists since there is no cycle track and a high speed limit. The cycle track along Store Valbyvej is the first step towards establishing a campus path that will ensure safe conditions for cyclists from Trekroner Campus to the future Risø Science Park and not least to create the long-wanted path connection between the town Ågerup, Valby Station and Roskilde.

The Municipality of Roskilde has therefore made it a priority to upgrade the southern part of Store Valbyvej from the junction at the street Ågerupvej in Store Valby to the ring road Østre Ringvej (A6). A stretch of a little more than three kilometres will be upgraded with a two-way cycle track on the Eastern side of Store Valbyvej and will be connected to the existing campus path.

A few years ago, the land of the cycle track was ceded to the municipality of Roskilde when the Fors A/S (Danish utility company) establishing wastewater pipes and water supply along Store Valbyvej. The ground was therefore already partly ready for constructing the path and has therefore contributed to lower project costs.
