Peder Schiønning was chosen as “Young FRI Advisor of the Year” in 2019. At Artelia, he works as a project director in the Laboratories & Health department.

I was able to contribute from day one

I chose to work at Artelia because of the professionalism and approach to the tasks that I got the impression of during my job interview. It was clear that community is very important in the company and that was also important to me..

I was thrown into the tasks from day one! I became part of a project that was nearing its completion, where I could immediately contribute with concrete tasks. It was a good induction because my efforts were needed, and I was part of the team from the start..

Peder won the 2019 Young FRI Advisor of the Year award based on his work as project manager on DTU Building 310.

Room for individual thinking
At Artelia, it doesn’t matter if you’re young and newly qualified or more experienced – everyone has the right to contribute with solutions and ideas, and well-reasoned arguments are listened to regardless of who makes them. Procedures are not set in stone either. Solutions are customised to the situation at hand and there is room to think for yourself and argue for better solutions in each case. This is ideal for someone like me, who is more energised by the process than the outcome.

Rapid professional development
The opportunities for professional development at Artelia are excellent. I experience the management as very attentive, and they listen to my wishes for courses and training or when I ask for more responsibility. I had the opportunity to train to be a project manager through our own training platform.

In 2017-18, I joined Artelia’s leadership talent programme, which is an exciting course with workshops, interviews, and training. It gave me a lot of tools for working with relationships, behaviour, and motivators, which is a huge advantage when putting together teams and making collaboration on projects run smoothly. I also became much wiser about myself and learnt a lot of new things that you don’t learn during your studies.

Large contact surface
Today I’m a project director. In addition to keeping track of progress, quality, time, finances, and collaboration on large projects, I also help to secure new assignments. In my everyday life, I have a wide range of contacts and gain insight into many different disciplines – however, I don’t spend much time sitting at my desk. By interviewing the people who will end up using our solutions, I get a much better understanding of what the right solution might look like, so I talk to veterinarians, sleep researchers, physicists, chemists, and all kinds of other professionals. It’s a really exciting intersection to work in!

One of the projects I’m most proud to have led is Building 310 at DTU, where we delivered a high-class result, both engineering-wise and technically. We also trialed a new, innovative form of collaboration with the client and contractor on the project.
