We are part of the winning team that will help the Danish Building and Property Agency develop a new governmental office centre in Odense. The building will be a beacon for large scale timber constructions.

One of the biggest timber constructions in Denmark will be located on Lerchesgade in Odense. Here, the Danish Building and Property Agency will erect a new office centre with room for 1,600 governmental work stations. The use of timber in the load-bearing structures was a requirement stated in the tender documents. On May 20th, the winners of the 31,000 m2 timber construction projects were announced and the agency has chosen the team consisting of NCC, Artelia and C.F. Møller Architects. Three companies that all have substantial experience with timber constructions.

The building will house 10 governmental institutions and is expected to be completed in 2024.

Leading by example
With a project of this size, the Danish Building and Property Agency helps move the industry in a more wooden direction which will help save considerable amounts of CO2. Construction materials are directly responsible for a substantial amount of a building’s total CO2 emissions. Thus, an increased focus on the use of timber in construction projects is an important contribution to the green transition of the industry as a whole.

In Artelia, we welcome this development. We have helped build more than 65,000 m2 of mass timber constructions, and we have long worked proactively to show that the general challenges connected to timber structures can be solved and the many benefits reaped.
