We prepare highly specific solutions for road networks just as we cover strategical traffic planning. We help design the infrastructure for all types of road users and passengers. Green mobility plansHow do we make sure that people can get from A to B in our cities without letting the climate pay the price? This is one of the big challenges that Artelia helps address through green mobility plans. The plans aim at promoting climate and health friendly ways of transportation, such as biking and walking, and seek ways to making public transportation a more attractive choice than the car. Artelia helps devise and implement green mobility plans for Odense and Copenhagen, among others. Bicycles take Le MansThe French city of Le Mans is internationally known for its annual 24-hour motor race, where the Danish racing driver Tom Kristensen has triumphed nine times. At Artelia, we contribute to putting another distinct Danish stamp on the city, this time by using our expertise in bicycle traffic. The Chronovélo project with a development pool of DKK 74 million euros is about establishing an extensive network of cycle routes stretching over 315 km and connecting the entire Le Mans Métropole area, which includes the city of Le Mans itself and its surroundings. We have helped our French colleagues in the preparation of an infrastructure plan that defines and prioritises the cycle routes in the network. Bus Rapid Transit in ReykjavikArtelia takes part in the design of the capital region of Iceland’s new state-of-the-art transport system with fast buses also known as Bus Rapid Transit (BRT). The project, Borgarlínan, is a milestone for Iceland´s development of the world’s most sustainable public transport system. BRT is best described as a light rail on rubber wheels. The system is both faster and cheaper to implement than a light rail while the solution is more flexible and suited to modern urban centres. Client The Capital Region of Denmark Collaborative partners Gottlieb Paludan Architects, HNIT and YRKI Services Roads, bridges, civil works and drainage Increased capacity for bikes on Torvegade In Copenhagen, more than 25,000 cyclists pass the central road Torvegade on a daily basis. However, the road does not live up to the Danish standard of well-functioning infrastructure. On the contrary, it is a textbook example the road user’s fight for the street. The municipality of Copenhagen was in need of a qualified proposal of how to better favour bikes on the road and how to design a more well-functioning urban space for the many users. For the project, Artelia conducted a thorough traffic analysis and prepared a proposal of how the infrastructure could instead work. We submitted two proposals that both procure a greater capacity and favour cyclists while contributing to Torvegade’s pedestrian zone and the city’s mobility. Client The municipality of Copenhagen Architect Lytt Architecture New main pedestrian street in GartnerbyenA former industrial area is to be transformed into Rødovre’s new city centre. Here, the main pedestrian street will be the all-uniting element that will connect alleys and public squares. With the new main pedestrian street, a new urbanity is formed with accompanying recreational areas, green areas and rainwater management. The plan for the street is to encourage playing activities while the street will also host cafes and restaurants where you can sit outside under the open sky, enjoy other people’s company and the urban sensation. The 14,000 km2 is designed for vulnerable road users with access for stock deliveries. Traffic safety and accessibility plays a vital role for the project. Client Rødovre Kommune Architect SLA Bicycles in MontpellierIn the south of France in Montpellier, Artelia is consultant on a large Bus Rapid Transit project. The project includes the design of new solutions for a road with several intersections where the public buses will be prioritised and arrive quicker. The new infrastructure requires consideration of cyclists and this is where we can contribute with valuable experience from our large Danish bicycle projects. Client Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole Services Infrastructure Future cycle parking on Copenhagen Central StationIn the coming years, Copenhagen Central Station will experience an increase in the number of passengers which will increase the need for cycle parking. By 2030, it is estimated that 4,000 additional bicycle parking spaces will be necessary. Artelia gave Copenhagen Municipality a number of qualified suggestions for how to meet these challenges. Client Copenhagen Municipality Architect Juul | Frost Architects and Gehl Architects Services Traffic planning and traffic modelling Copenhagen MetroArtelia is behind the traffic calculations that formed the basis for Copenhagen metro Cityringen and the metro to Sydhavn.
