Energy Distribution

The Danish energy sector is undergoing a historic transformation. A comprehensive green transition is well underway, requiring a massive expansion of infrastructure. Artelia is contributing to this development on multiple fronts.

District heating conversion of Nyråd By

Vordingborg District Heating A/S wanted to supply the village of Nyråd with district heating, thereby converting approximately 650 households that were primarily heated with natural gas.

In this context, a transmission line was constructed, connecting to an existing transmission line system from the company’s facility on Masnedø and linked to a new pump/exchanger station at Mønsvej north of Nyråd. From here, main lines were laid to Nyråd village. In Nyråd, distribution lines and connections were installed for the approximately 650 new district heating customers.

Client  Vordingborg Fjernvarme A/S
Services Regulatory contact in connection with road crossings, hydraulic recalculation of the network with Termis, detailed design of the pipeline network, preparation of EU tender documents, execution of EU prequalification and tender, evaluation of bids, recommendation and contracting, construction management, technical supervision, and one-year inspection.

Heat Exchanger Station in Espergærde

Forsyning Helsingør is expanding the district heating network in Espergærde, and in this context, there is a need to establish a 10 MW heat exchanger station in the town. The station is initially set up as a 5 MW station but is prepared for later expansion to 10 MW. The station is connected to the district heating transmission network, and distribution district heating pipes have been installed to supply new district heating areas.

Client Forsyning Helsingør A/S
Services Basic design (machinery, piping, electrical/control systems, and building), risk management, occupational health and safety, regulatory approvals, design management, total contract tendering, contracting, construction management, supervision, and follow-up.

1,700 New District Heating Customers in Ishøj

Ishøj Varmeværk has decided to significantly expand the district heating system to include up to 1,700 new consumers, mainly distributed across row house and single-family house neighborhoods. The project is divided into 5 subareas and includes a new main line, decentralized pumping stations, and shunt wells.

Artelia has managed the planning and design leading up to the tender project. Among other tasks, we have prepared a comprehensive guide for the entire process, provided a thermo-hydraulic analysis for the entire future district heating area, conducted an EIA screening, and presented the project at a public meeting.

Client  Ishøj Varmeværk
Services  Client consultancy, Termis model and hydraulic analysis, EIA screening, public communication, obtaining LER information, design and tender documents for areas 1, 2, and 4, as well as tender documents for the procurement of a HVAC framework agreement, enabling residents in Ishøj to have district heating units installed through the heating plant.

Foundations for the Future of Power Supply

The Danish power grid is being prepared for the large-scale integration of more renewable energy, which includes an upgrade of the many transformer stations where Artelia is the engineering firm responsible for the foundations.

Renewable Energy for Vessels

Aarhus Port is collaborating with Artelia and PowerCon to create sustainable shore power facilities for cruise ships, which reduces CO₂ emissions and makes the port more attractive. The collaboration also extends to Hamburg with two similar projects in cooperation with Artelia’s local office in Hamburg.

The Recyclable Ressources Beneath Our Feet

Vordingborg Forsyning has adopted a new and more sustainable method that recycles the soil under public road areas instead of replacing it with fresh gravel. This recycling not only results in economic savings but also significant CO₂ reductions. Artelia is involved as the client consultant.
