Pharma & Life Science

Concept to Completion

The pharmaceutical and biotechnological industries operate in the complex interplay between advanced processes, regulatory frameworks, and constant market pressure to deliver innovative medicine at high speed. In the core of our work is a deep understanding of analysis, careful design, and thorough documentation.

We are not just consultants; we are an integrated part of the industry, and our team brings passion and expertise to the projects, which are essential for realizing successful projects in this sector.

We cannot claim to save lives or cure diseases. We do not produce any medicine, but we put all our engineering and consultancy expertise behind the companies that do.

Concept to completion

Acknowledging that each task and customer are unique, we develop an individual project strategy in collaboration with the client.  We address the most important needs, whether we are taking part in the conceptualization of a new production facility or remodeling parts of an existing factory within a tight timeframe.

We are involved in the projects from the initial decisions and throughout the entire process – from concept development, master planning, and design to the final phases such as validation and commissioning. Our project model is based on extensive in the pharmaceutical industry.

The Pharma & Life Science division comprises 100 dedicated engineers, architects, and process specialists with specialized knowledge. As the task expands, we leverage the expertise of our 9,000 colleagues within the Artelia Group

One of the largest pharma consultants in the industry

In May 2022, LBP Engineering joined Artelia. The merger was a win-win match. With LBP’s strong skills within process engineering, tests and qualification and Artelia’s wide range of multidisciplinary qualifications, we have created a pharma division that is among the greatest in the Danish market.

When clean just isn’t clean enough

Artelia design cold rooms according to our clients’ needs, always searching for the right solutions to save resources and guarantee cleanliness. This was the case at Xellia Pharmaceuticals where Artelia took an innovative approach to construct a class C cold room.

Commotion in Busytown

Large-scale refurbishment and expansion works were required at Novozymes’ plant in Kalundborg, Denmark – without hindering daily operations. This required Artelia to carefully align expectations and tread softly to not get in the way of the client’s routines.

Good Chemistry

In-depth EHS reviews and studious personnel training are key factors when working with hazardous chemicals. They were among the primary tasks for Artelia on an assignment for a leading Danish pharmaceutical company.

Fiord of Opportunity

Careful planning and project communication were at the center of Artelia’s work for Norwegian EPAX, helping to expand and rebuild a large facility for producing fish oil as well as pharmaceutical products.

User-friendly design in the CIP room

If a pharmaceutical factory were a human body, the CIP room would be its kidneys in which everything is rinsed and cleaned. Artelia has designed Xellia’s CIP equipment with an emphasis on usability.

Hospital Pharmacy Aalborg

The project included rebuilding the personnel sluices where the personnel put on clean room suits before entering production rooms. The requirements for sterility are extemely high, since the preparation and production of sterile pharmaceuticals are class B, C and D in accordance with EU’s rules for GMP (Good Manufacutring Practice). Furthermore the project included preliminary examination of air change in the cytostika zone where chemotherapy is produced.
