2021 was a successful year for the consulting engineering company Artelia. The company’s annual results depict growth of both revenue and net income just as the staff of employees has increased by 13 %.

With an increase in turnover of 15 %, and a result close to MDKK 69 compared to the MDKK 55 of last year, CEO Christian Listov- Saabye proudly presents the company’s annual results.

“The top and the bottom line move and grow together and with an EBIT margin of 7.9, we are more than pleased with our efforts. Our employees have done well, and we have achieved a positive result.”

At Artelia, the community means a lot and, after the annual results and employee bonuses were an-nounced internally, about 150 employees left for the company’s annual skiing trip.

A positive market In 2021, the markets for building, energy & industry and infrastructure have all proven profitable.

”The energy market is currently booming, and we have a lot of consultancy projects within district heating and sustainable energy production. We work with several utility companies concerning re-newable energy production and their green transition.”

The business area Industry is growing, and Artelia has laid an ambitious plan for growth within the pharmaceutical industry.

The building market and services connected to sustainable construction projects particularly have also contributed significantly to the results.

”We are working on a lot of construction projects that focus on sustainability. Living Places is a good example of an ambitious housing concept that will ensure both a healthy indoor climate and low-level carbon emissions of 4 kilos per square meter. Another example is Coop Byen in Albertslund which will consist of 360 Nordic Swan eco-labelled apartments, attached houses and youth housing. The new dormitory for trade students in Herning is also worth mentioning as it will be built as a tim-ber construction with 70 student apartments grouped around a central, common area,” Christian Lis-tov-Saabye explains.

Strong international collaborations
The Danish government’s infrastructure plan that includes investments of more than DKK 100 billion up until 2035 will also contribute to several exciting tasks for Artelia in the years to come.

Artelia contributes to the new light rail that will connect Copenhagen across the city’s ‘finger plan’. In collaboration with Artelia, Artelia has exported these light rail skills to Iceland to assist the capital re-gion’s Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system and the ambition to have the world’s most sustainable public transport system.

The collaboration with Artelia has made Artelia an international player also on the Danish market where Artelia’s skills are utilised within for example the maritime market. Here, Artelia collaborates with Artelia on the tunnel factory for the future Fehmarnbelt connection.

“We have come a long way with the export of our skills to France in terms of bike paths, district heat-ing and digitalisation. We are also working on an interesting project in Australia where we contribute with consultancy on the decommissioning of a drilling rig. The disposal of drilling rigs in the best pos-sible way is also part of the sustainable transition” Christian Listov-Saabye explains.

A comfortable work environment
The engineering industry is in high need of employees and, according to FRI (the Danish Association of Consulting Engineers), 98 % of the engineering companies in Denmark lack the necessary number of employees.

“We live by selling knowledge and because we aim to grow and expand our company, we need to at-tract new employees and maintain the talented employees we have already got. It came as a surprise to me that we have grown more than our competitors this year and that we have succeeded in attracting this many employees. Our growth in number of employees is not the result of large invest-ments in advertisement and marketing, it is the result of our comfortable work environment where people like to work” Christian Listov-Saabye states.

In 2021, the company initiated a large, strategic project to make Artelia an even better workplace. At workshops across all of Artelia’s offices, employees contributed with ideas as to what would make Artelia an even better workplace.

”We must work on exciting projects. Yet, we must also be a workplace with a work-life balance that allows our employees to spend time with their family and friends” Christian Listov-Saabye concludes.

Team Framtíðarlína is designing the first stage of the new BRT system(Bus Rapid Transit) in the capital of Island Reykjavik. The team consists of Artelia, Artelia, Gottlieb Paludan Arkitekter, Hnit and Yrki.
